Next OWLS Gathering will be on Thursday, January 22nd
The first meeting was held on May 17, 2005 as an informal coffee and social hour. Twenty people attended, six couples and eight singles. This meeting was held specifically to determine if there was sufficient interest in forming a group, open to all ages as well as seniors.

The group was very enthusiastic about meeting monthly, having a potluck each time.

After a couple of months, it was suggested to change the original name of “Adult Fellowship of Friends” to OWLS (Older, Wiser Lutheran(s) which has since become Older Wiser Lutheran Seniors).

We meet on the fourth Thursday of each month except November, when we meet the second Thursday for a catered Thanksgiving dinner and social time. If we decide on a December meeting, it is also held on the second Thursday, usually with singing of carols. Each year we go to a dinner-theater play at White Pines near Oregon, Illinois.

A free will offering is given each month and monies collected are given away to projects at church or to charitable groups around the community. OWLS also hosts Sunday morning coffee hour periodically.
Turner High Breakfast Club Entertains OWLS
A group of 28 members of the 60 member Beloit Turner High School Breakfast Club entertained the OWLS on Thurs. Dec. 11 for their Christmas celebration. A grand potluck fed the Club singers and all OWLS prior to the concert. The group is directed by Tim Rosenthal. Many of the students were involved in Turner's recent production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie”. One of the soloists was our own Lizzie McMillan.

Sharyn and Henry Pann have served as OWLS coordinators for the past 6 years. They have decided to retire at the end of this year. Sharyn was presented with an Owl ornament and Henry with a garden solar Owl ornament. Jean and Roger Neitzel have agreed to take over the coordination beginning next month. The OWLS welcomed 5 guests in addition to the regulars. OWLS donated $25 as a memorial for Ethel Bridge.

Next Month:
OWLS will meet in January on the 22nd at noon. Cassie Krueger will be presenting a report on her recent trip to Portugal.
