Lydia’s Closet was started on August 11, 2010 as another outreach in conjunction with the Soup Lunch Bunch. We ask for donations of good, clean clothing from the congregation, which we then sell at nominal cost (usually 25¢ per item) during the Soup Lunch on the third Wednesday of each month. Proceeds go back to the Soup Lunch Bunch and, as of June 2014, $1000 has been given back.
The name of this outreach was chosen for the woman Lydia, the seller of purple cloth noted in Acts 16:14, who opened her heart to God.
